Applying for Replacement certificate: Change of status

If you wrote matric in more than one examination sitting and you want to combine your credits to qualify for a National Certificate, i.e. Senior Certificate (SC) or National Senior Certificate (NSC), you must apply for Replacement certificate: change of status. The department does not automatically combine your credits, unless you wrote a supplementary examination.

You can apply for confirmation statement of results while waiting for the National Certificate.

What should you do?

  • Pay the prescribed fee by postal order at the Post Office, cash at DBE/PED office or by cheque.
  • Go to the nearest DBE/PED offices with the following documents:
    • Your results from all examination sittings
    • The original identity document (ID) and a certified copy.
    • The proof of payment
  • Alternatively you can download form, Replacement Certificate: Change of Status, fill it in and post it with the attached documents including the postal order to: Private Bag X895, Pretoria, 0001

How long does it take?

It takes four to six weeks for Replacement certificate: change of status. The combination statement of results is obtainable immediately.

How much does it cost?

It will cost you R88.00 for the Replacement certificate, and if you want a statement of results, it will cost you an additional R37.00. These fees are valid from 01 April 2024 until 31 March .

“Combination of subjects and qualifications:

-National Senior Certificate and Senior Certificate CANNOT be combined

-National Senior Certificate (Schools) CANNOT be combined with Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate(Colleges), N3 or Amended Senior Certificate.

-N3 subjects (UP TO NOVEMBER 2014 only) CAN be combined with the Senior Certificate subjects to issue a matric certificate.

All applications must be directed to the relevant department of education or the private assessment bodies.

NB: Candidates are encouraged to enquire with the relevant department before upgrading their results or registering with private colleges.”

A NOTE FROM DHET

   Kindly note that when you combine certificate candidate has to provide details (ID Number and copy of the results that need to be combined more especially if they NOT all from DHET) to see what needs to be combine with. In some instances the combination talks to the following examples and are dealt with in different ways: •N3 results from TVET college when a candidate has written examinations in different sittings (DHET does the combination) •When a candidate has results from Basic Education and would like to combine with TVET college results (depends which Department has more subjects than the other, the one with most subjects is the one that doers
